Rev. Philip Bottomley
Executive Director
Jesus’ instructions to his disciples: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel” in Matthew 10: 5,6, was the confirmation the Lord gave to the Rev. Philip Bottomley that He was calling him to become the Midland Area Secretary of CMJ UK in 1978.

In 1984 Philip with his wife Sylvia and their three children, with direct confirmation from the Lord, accepted the invitation of the board to join Theresa Newell in northern Virginia and become the National Director of the newly formed CMJ USA. In 1990, CMJ moved from Fairfax to Ambridge, Pennsylvania, to become part of the growing missions presence around Trinity School for Ministry. Having launched CMJ, Philip took up parish ministry in 1992.

In 2012 Philip and Sylvia retired from parish ministry in Roanoke, Virginia, and returned to western Pennsylvania. In retirement, Philip again joined the CMJ team and became previous director Canon Daryl Fenton’s volunteer Associate Director. Sylvia went home to be with Jesus June 2019 after a long battle with cancer.
